Imola will host the next F1 race, the 2025 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, which heralds the start of the European season after races in Australia, Asia, the Middle East and Miami.

The seventh grand prix of the year will take place on May 18, and looks set to be the final Formula 1 race at Imola for the foreseeable future: the circuit’s contract expires this year, and there doesn’t seem to be a new deal on the horizon.

It’s unlikely to disappear with a whimper, however. The race weekend could see several teams bring major upgrades that have the potential to reshuffle the competitive order. McLaren already has an advantage over the field; can Ferrari, Red Bull and Mercedes find the missing element to challenge the papaya cars, or will Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris pull away further, battling among themselves for the championship spoils?

Piastri will be looking to strengthen his grip on the world championship after three wins in a row, and extend his 16 point lead in the title race; Norris will be keen to avoid losing more ground.

European season

Imola marks the start of the European season with the second triple-header of the year. The following week will bring the final Monaco Grand Prix to be held in May for some time. Its clash with the Indy 500 (on May 25) will be avoided from 2026, when the blue riband event is shifted to a June date.

Spain wraps up the three races in a row before a trip to Canada, and then the remainder of the European rounds, including the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on July 6. In 2025, the summer break will take place between the Hungarian Grand Prix on August 3 and the Dutch Grand Prix on August 31.

Season run-in

The final run-in mirrors the 2024 season, with races in Baku and Singapore before an extended run in the Americas: Austin, Mexico, Brazil and Las Vegas precede the final two rounds in Qatar and Abu Dhabi — another triple header to bring the year to a close on December 7.

When is the 2025 Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix?

The seventh round of the Formula 1 season takes place on May 18, as part of a standard F1 race weekend. That means there will be two practice sessions on Friday May 16, followed by a final practice on Saturday morning before qualifying on Saturday afternoon at 3pm BST (4pm local time). For the first time this year, a Formula 1 race will have a familiar Sunday afternoon start time (for European viewers): at 2pm BST or 3pm local time on Sunday.

Where is the 2025 Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix?

Imola will host the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix for what could be its last F1 race for some time. No deal has been agreed beyond this year, and the comments from F1 have not been encouraging: CEO Stefano Domenicali has said that. it will be”increasingly difficult” to hold two grands prix in the same country, amid increasing worldwide demand to host races.

While the circuit has been host to some dramatic and tragic moments, its rich heritage can’t disguise the issue that modern cars struggle to overtake on the current layout. As such, qualifying will be even more crucial than normal for this year’s race.
